Dynamic Dancer Portraits with Color Gels by Reed Schick
Local Knoxville photographer, Reed Schick, collaborated with New York dancer, Julia Ozdych, to create some really dynamic, non-tradition dancer portraits & headshots that show off her creativity & passion.
Here’s what Reed had to say about this studio session :
Reed: “Julia is a dancer based in New York City and reached out to me about creating portraits that feel like her. We collaborated to focus on her as a person and incorporate the art of dance without making the photographs explicitly about dancin’. This way the photographs could be a blend of tasteful headshots while also showing her personality. We started out by using a white backdrop and clean lighting to isolate Julia and get a few versatile headshot type photographs. Once those were made, I threw up the yellow backdrop and used different color gels on the strobes to create a more unique look and really push into Julia's energy. While a lot of the posing and direction was talked about beforehand and shared through a mood board, the more photographs we made, the more creativity flowed as we kept pushing into stranger and non-traditional camera settings/poses. This was our first time working together and we were both absolutely stoked on how everything turned out. Can't wait to create more in the future!”
We love when photographers aren’t afraid to try new things & let creativity lead the way. We think you’ll agree that the end result is worth it!
