We are obsessed with these editorial engagement photos in the studio by Kelsey Shea Photo. These portraits were minimally styled with the couple being the main event. Adding in some yummy cake to celebrate their engagement was a fun & flirty detail that added some playful photos into the mix with their chic modern style. We are always impressed with a photographer’s direction & posing without many props present. Kelsey definitely knows how to make her clients feel empowered & confident, creating images that look natural, (yet perfect?!) at the same time. We asked Kelsey a question about her approach to this studio engagement session to gain some insight:
We love how these images have both an editorial, yet playful feel. How did you approach this engagement session in the studio differently than how you would approach working with a couple outdoors or elsewhere?
Kelsey: “Shooting indoors is such a fun challenge compared to shooting outside! In a studio space, there's no nature or changing light to influence what I'm creating, so my focus rests solely on my clients' connection with one another. My directing stays the same, but how I see everything is different. I'm catching smaller details because we're in a tighter space and I'm focused more on shapes and texture because we're against such a minimal backdrop. That careful eye is essential, because I think in-studio images can fall flat if I'm not bringing those small but beautiful details to life.”
